Heavily damaged gesso
A 1760 Cartel Clock case in white pine, supporting a Hoopoe bird with floral and C-scroll decorations. It had extensive losses to the gesso ground. The gesso was replaced and cut back to the original profiles, then coated in a sympathetic colour of clay bole. It was then gilded in 23.5ct. gold, burnished and toned-in to match the original finish. Private client, London.
